Mix cornstarch, brown sugar, and water. Add peaches and cook until mixture is thickened about 10 minutes. Add butter and lemon juice. Pour into an 8" baking dish.
Make the Batter Topping with flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, butter and egg. Beat with a spoon until batter is smooth. Drop onto hot peach mixture. It spreads over the peaches during baking. Sprinkle with white sugar and bake in 350-degree oven for 35-40 minutes.
