Week #5 Farm News

Week #5 Farm News

Dear CSA Members,

The first harvest of cucumbers this week!  Also, new in your boxes this week is frisee endive.  Long-time members will remember this.  But, if you are new to the CSA you get to enjoy a new green. This green is mildly bitter with a peppery flavor and crunchy leaves.  There is a photo below to help identify this vegetable.  This is the most commonly used way to use this green is in a salad but you can saute it as well. This week is also the start of the fruit shares.  If you have ordered a fruit share please make sure you take your shares this week.  They will not be in your produce boxes.  Each fruit share member gets one basket of blueberries and one basket of sweet cherries.  If you are not sure if you have a fruit share or not please email the farm and I can check into this for you

Here on the farm, we have been busy transplanting vegetable plants into the fields, weeding, harvesting, and packing CSA shares.  We were able to plant, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and collards before the heavy rains moved in yesterday.  The forecast is calling for rainstorms for the next three days so it will be pretty muddy in the fields for the next week.

We hope you enjoy this weeks harvest!
