Farm News Week #4

Farm News Week #4

Week #4  (Even Pickup Week)

Dear CSA Member,

This past week has been pretty rainy but a sunny and dry weekend and week are forecasted.  Just what the plants are needing.  Right now in the fields, the summer squash and eggplant plants are in blossom.  (Check out photos on Instagram and Facebook)  They are a little late due to the overcast chillier spring weather we have had but, it won't be long until your bags are filled with the start of the summer harvests.  It is so important to enjoy the weekly harvest as the seasonal veggies come and go quickly.

We have been working away harvesting, weeding, and transplanting.  Currently, three out of the four greenhouses are empty for now until they are filled with fall crops (such as squash, fall onions, and popcorn) to be curred.  To cure these crops they are gently laid out on the benches in the greenhouses allowing the warm sun to fully dry the outer layers of skin.  The fourth greenhouse will keep being filled with more seedlings close to the end of August.  It is always busy around here but we sure enjoy it!

Enjoy this week's Harvest!
